I’m totally stoked that something I made has opened up a fairly broad discussion. Even if that discussion includes telling me to suck a dick, or to fuck myself with an iron spike. Really, that’s super productive, thank you.

My intent WAS NOT to say that all gay men have the same access to privilege, in fact it was basically the opposite of that. I was SPECIFICALLY citing Dan Savage’s video with the Babies/Europe line (and also assimilation/homonormativity that only benefits VERY specific people, but WHATEVER), and HIS assumption that all these things and more are available to ALL queer people everywhere, if they’d just not kill themselves long enough to graduate high school. I found his project very silencing and not at all focused on the fact that it does not just get better for everyone, we have to make it better. And we have to make it better NOW, not in this mythical future in which homophobia doesn’t exist outside of high school.

OF COURSE I do not think that someone telling kids not to kill themselves is a bad thing. And some of the videos submitted to the project were great, Kate Bornstein’s particularly comes to mind.

And LOL to the privilege denying dudes. I’m not using your privilege to discredit anything you have to say. But when you say “I HAVE BAD DAYS TOO,” the fact is that your bad days probably have nothing to do with your race or gender. And saying that “MY BOSS IS BLACK AND MY SUPERVISOR IS A WOMAN” is pretty much like saying “BUT I HAVE BLACK FRIENDS!”

In sum: If some fucking comic on tumblr is “THE WORST THING [YOU’VE] EVER SEEN IN [YOUR] LIFE” then shit, you’re fucking lucky, asshole.
